Fight Against Breast Cancer - Fundraising Raffle

Janine of Athena's Armoury is walking 60 miles to raise money for the fight against Breast Cancer.

To raise funds she is holding a raffle - you can see the stunning prizes, which include the offer of a portrait, seriously good jewellery (and a pin from me!) here.

How to I donate?

Make your donation here Don't try to donate via Paypal they take a cut which means less for Janine's cause.  Paypal is usually great but not this time.....

THEN Report to Janine here by adding a blog comment saying that you donated.  This way she can tally you with the donation record she has on the Susan G Komen site and dance around the room as she reaches her goal.

Any doubts about what to do.  Janine has it all written down here.  The raffle will close at 11:59pm EST on Thursday, May 13, 2010.

Adobe Air and the iMac - A Worried Post Addressed to Adobe.

I recently tried up update my software for Adobe AIR so I could open something, I couldn't and uncovered a worrying development at Adobe.  My iMac - which is less than 3 years old and had THE latest Mac software on it (Snow Leopard) - is no longer supported by Adobe AIR.

I quote from the Adobe AIR page :-

The Adobe AIR 2 release, expected in the first half of 2010, will not support Macintosh PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system. Adobe will be discontinuing support of PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system for Adobe AIR and will no longer provide security updates for Adobe AIR on these operating systems.

This means that if the developments of Adobe AIR continue and only the most up-to-date Adobe Air is used by popular Twitter app Seesmic Desktop (and TweetDeck) then I, and hundreds of thousands others, will be locked out of some of the most popular Twitter apps (and countless other AIR based apps) on the Web.  How many more things will we be excluded from because Adobe are cutting corners eh?

I'm speechless - I'm upset, and I am totally baffled.  I can't find any information (if I did I suspect it would be a long series of justifications as to why it's not important to support an Apple computer).

  • Is Apple doing something about this?  I can't find anything on the Support Site.
  • Adobe obviously cares very little - so they won't will they? Why should they care - Mac users aren't that important are they...

STOP PRESS - I have this message from Seesmic who have been amazingly helpful so far in addressing my concerns :-

"Got a response from our team and it looks like Seesmic Desktop is not dependent on the Adobe AIR upgrade.  You should be able to continue to use Seesmic Desktop without upgrading to AIR 2.0 for right now."

So, this is something.  I am OK for now but for how long..... I am still very ANGRY with Adobe VERY VERY Angry for disenfranchising me - an ordinary person who makes a living from the internet.  Thanks for nothing Adobe.

ArtFire for Pros - Check it Out

I am a Pro Seller on ArtFire.  Being a Pro seller has lots of uses - let me tell you about one really convenient one - Promo Labels.

What the heck are promo labels??  Well, a seller can add a flag in the bottom corner of store items to announce a Sale, Free Shipping, add a Free Gift or a Coupon Code. Click of a button - done.  No I'm not kidding either.  A simple way of letting customers know you are making their shopping easier and making them feel a bit more special.

Check out the loooong list of advantages for Pro sellers on ArtFore here. Awesome!

I am not a great one for Youtube (no time!) but I do have one subscription I love, it's Mean Kitty.  Sparta, the original Mean Kitty was the subject of a really funny 'rap' song performed by this guy - you can find it by going to the Mean Kitty Channel
