I quote from the Adobe AIR page :-
The Adobe AIR 2 release, expected in the first half of 2010, will not support Macintosh PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system. Adobe will be discontinuing support of PowerPC-based computers and the Windows 2000 operating system for Adobe AIR and will no longer provide security updates for Adobe AIR on these operating systems.
This means that if the developments of Adobe AIR continue and only the most up-to-date Adobe Air is used by popular Twitter app Seesmic Desktop (and TweetDeck) then I, and hundreds of thousands others, will be locked out of some of the most popular Twitter apps (and countless other AIR based apps) on the Web. How many more things will we be excluded from because Adobe are cutting corners eh?
I'm speechless - I'm upset, and I am totally baffled. I can't find any information (if I did I suspect it would be a long series of justifications as to why it's not important to support an Apple computer).
- Is Apple doing something about this? I can't find anything on the Support Site.
- Adobe obviously cares very little - so they won't will they? Why should they care - Mac users aren't that important are they...
STOP PRESS - I have this message from Seesmic who have been amazingly helpful so far in addressing my concerns :-
"Got a response from our team and it looks like Seesmic Desktop is not dependent on the Adobe AIR upgrade. You should be able to continue to use Seesmic Desktop without upgrading to AIR 2.0 for right now."
So, this is something. I am OK for now but for how long..... I am still very ANGRY with Adobe VERY VERY Angry for disenfranchising me - an ordinary person who makes a living from the internet. Thanks for nothing Adobe.
