Danny, the kitten with no eyelids. A positive report!!

Regular readers will remember my post some time ago about Danny the kitten born with no eyelids (see here for pic and report) and his mum and dad's refusal to give up hope that he could be given hope and the chance of a healthy life WITH eyelids.

Here is the HOT NEWS - just in. So if any of you gave - this will lift your spirits!!

Dear Marjorie,

I am sending you this message because yesterday Danny had the long awaited operation on his eyelids. The vet was able to create two new upper eyelids for Danny by taking skin grafts from beneath his lower eyelids and stitching them in place above the eyes. The vet said she was very pleased with how the operation went.

Danny will need to go back to the vet in two weeks time to check on his healing progress. Then in four weeks, he will have cryotherapy which will freeze the hair follicles around the eyes and prevent any further irritation. The eyelids enable him to blink for the first time and this is obviously very important because it allows him to keep the surface of the eyes moist when they are open.

Already we can see that Danny is happier in himself. He is really able to see the world for the first time and is very excited. He wants to play with the other cats but we have to be careful to make sure the eyes are protected at this crucial stage.

I would like to thank you again on behalf of Danny for your support and generosity. Without your help, this tricky operation would not have been possible and Danny would have been consigned to a life of semi-darkness.

Warm Regards

Josef and Victoria
